WE IS GOING TO HAVE FUN!!!

Se täytyy kyllä sanoa, että on ollut tervetullut olo lähteä tänne Ranskaan. Kaikkien Rouen Business Schoolin käytännön ohjeiden lisäksi täällä on Cultures Connection- niminen porukka, keiden tehtävä on pitää meistä huolta ja keksiä kaikkea ajanvietettä. Hauskinta ajanvietettä tähän mennessä on kuitenkin ollut lukea porukan lähettämiä sähköpostiviestejä. Englannin kieli on ihan hyvää, joten ei siinä mitään, mutta ne fontit ja huutomerkkien määrä!!!!!!!! Sisältö on ollut kiteytettynä: We is going to have a lot of parties, happy hours, trips, we will drive you to grocery stores, you will see France and we will indroduce you to French culture…. ;) 

Viesteissä oli kuitenkin käsitelty myös vakavampia aiheita: 

 “It can be exciting to study abroad, but some students may find the experience of coming to a new country and a new culture a bit overwhelming. The combination of missing friends and family and adapting to a new environment can induce 'culture shock' (common symptoms: Sadness, loneliness, melancholy, Insomnia or excessive sleep, Changes in mood, depression, feeling vulnerable, Anger, irritability, resentment, Loss of identity , Feeling of being lost or overlooked.) This is a popular term for describing the impact of moving from a familiar culture to one that is unfamiliar “ . 

Oheen oli koottu ohjeita culture shockin lievittämiseksi. Tässä muutamia lempikohtiani listalta:

-Tell yourself that what you are experiencing is normal.

-Have familiar things with personal meaning around you, such as photos or ornaments. (Ornaments… I knew I forgot something!)

-Learn to include a regular form of physical activity into your routine.

-Try to find familiar food if you can.

-Maintain contact with your ethnic group and if possible with local students.

-Links with faith community are helpful to some students. (contact your coordinator who will give you some information about places of worship in Rouen).

Ja tietysti kaikesta infosta oleellisin: our French buddies. Sen lisäksi, että kerrottiin, että täällä tulee olemaan French buddies waiting for us, niin jokaiselle oli luvassa oma, personal French buddy. Muutama päivä ennen mun lähtöä yllätyinkin iloisesti kirjautuessa FB:hen, kun joku poika oli lähettänyt Friend Requistin. Kuvassa oli mua vähän vanhemman näköinen tummaihoinen poika, kenellä oli vakava ilme. Viestinä oli: ”I am your Godfather. Let’s keep in touch”. Let’s.
